2 years…

September 27, 2009 Emery turned 2! And I still can’t believe it…

It’s truly a bittersweet feeling. On the one hand, I love seeing her at this age. Talking and having conversations with her. And on the other, I’d love for her to be a baby again. But what are you gonna do? Growing up is a part of life. I just feel so blessed to have her in my life and I thank God everyday for allowing me to stay home and be part of every moment in her life.

And last Saturday I not only celebrated her second year of life, but also 2 years of motherhood. Greatest gift and calling from God!

We love you very much Emery. You are our little princess. :)

God and children

I was inspired to write this post after reading the Abella’s family blog. For those of you that don’t follow them, here’s their latest post:

What would happen if…….christian parents stopped expecting the church to be fully responsible for the spiritual training of our kids and actually took up the challenge to teach this generation. I guarantee we’d have a HUGE impact on society! Let me clarfy, I am VERY thankful for childrens ministries, they serve an increditable purpose. However as Christian parents we have a responsibility that differs from that of the church. So lets get to it.

I thought that was so great because precisely this past Saturday, our church had an event called “FX Live” where parents and their kids came together to worship God through skits, music, bible stories…And parents were encouraged to go back home and talk to their children about Christ. With the purpose that it’s not the church’s full responsibility to equip and train our children spiritually. It’s ours! Many parents think it’s the church’s responsibility. Other parents just don’t know how to.

It’s quite simple though and we can incorporate Christ in everything we do with our children. During playtime, snack time, bath time, dinner time, bed time, etc. Lately I’ve been praying with Emery before we build the blocks. We pray that God help us build the blocks on love and faith and she repeats the prayer with me. We thank God during meal time, and thank God for His creation. And they get it. They really do!

So I encourage you, myself included, to get in the word of God and take on the full responsibility of equipping and teaching our children about God. Like the Abella’s said, “Let’s get to it!” :)

steps

Ella’s been standing and cruising while holding on to the couch for a while now. Figured it was time to practice for her first little steps. So last week, I sat and stood her up facing me and encouraged her to take some steps toward me…while holding on to her of course. We had been practicing all week and while I was out doing an errand, Who does she take the steps with? Michael! All that work and he got to see it first. lol… But, at least she did it! :)

You should know that we’ve given her a time limit. She has to walk by 10 months (gives her 2 months)…lol. Of course I KID! The more she crawls, the more I get to hold her! :)

Anyway, here are some pics of her doing her thing

surfin’

Both Michael and I agree that this is Emmy’s funniest video so far!

Here she is dancing and singing along to her favorite – Ralph’s World dvd “surfin’ in my imagination.” Watch it ALL! The ending is very funny :)

Enjoy!

We highly recommend Ralph’s World

gymnastics world

I have so many pics to share with you guys! As you know, this past weekend we celebrated Emmy’s 2nd birthday! We had a great time and I’ll blog about that soon…

But first, here are some pics of Emmy at Gymnastics World. We took her about two weeks ago and she enjoyed it. Every Thursday at 10am they have open gym for kids ages walking – 5 yrs. We want to continue to take her as this will build her self confidence and independence. I think she did pretty well for a first timer. She had her “scared” moments, but she did try some new things. :)

season 6

Tonight is the season premiere of Grey’s Anatomy!!!

For those that watch the show, you know the ending was so shocking! Izzie flat-lined, then Meredith realized the man hit by the bus was George! And of course, the tearjerker moment when the elevator door opened and Izzie faced George dressed in the army suit…..ahhhh! lol

Unfortunately, I read a spoiler by mistake and kinda know what will happen in the season premiere. :( Can’t wait to see what happens though!

h1n1 (swine flu)

Sorry it took me so long to blog about our health, but I’m feeling much, much better now. :) It will be a long post!

Well, as most of you know, we were all sick last week with the “swine flu.” We’re not sure how we got that but we do know Michael was the culprit, lol. So, it all started last Saturday. Mike was complaining about a sore throat and was a little concerned cause he had to lead worship the next morning. Of course, we thought nothing of it. Sunday came along and I too started developing a sore throat. By Monday, Michael and I were coughing all day and Michael got a fever. (precisely on Labor Day) That night, Emery started with a fever of 101. The following morning, I took her temp and it read 102 and she looked really ill. She was very inactive, and all she wanted to do was sleep.

Well after her nap time, I re took her temp (this time rectal) and it read 102. 5. I called Mike and we agreed that she needed to see her ped. So I called and of all days, all the sick spots were taken. Nurse told me that if her fever kept going up and new symptoms occurred, we were to take her to the hospital. So around 3:00 pm, she started crying and complaining about stomach pains. I got really worried, Mike came home early and after waking up from a nap, we decided to take her to the hospital. That part was really frustrating and tiresome. I’m sure they didn’t think much of her symptoms because we were in the waiting room for two hours before they saw her. Anyway, the nurse saw her and was a little concerned about her high fever and stomach pain so they proceeded to do a strep throat test, UTI, blood work, stomach x rays and finally an influenza test. POOR Emery! She cried sooooo much while they were doing all that, and to top things off, they finished off by putting in an IV. She was not happy!!

So finally, the nurse walked into the room and gave us the surprising news that she had Influenza type A h1N1, also known as Swine flu. We, she, could not believe it because Emery was showing no other symptoms like runny nose, cough, etc. The nurse was even a little hesitant to do the influenza test to begin with because of that reason. But thank God she did. And she did apologize for making Emery do all those tests. They weren’t all in vain though because her blood work did show that she was dehydrated so we had to wait till the IV was finished before we were able to come home.

We got home around 11:30 pm that night and Wednesday was hell for all of us. Especially for me. I don’t know if spending time at the hospital made us worse but we had a bad day. Around mid day I started with chills, sweating, and a fever of 101. I was fatigued, had congestion, a bad cough and I had to look after two girls. Luckily Michael stayed home to help out. Then I was stressing out because Emery didn’t want to eat, or drink anything, but her fever had gone down. In the afternoon, Michael took Ella to the ped to get checked out because she was developing a cough while Emery and I stayed napping at home. Turned out Ella also tested positive for the flu and at that point, Michael and I had no doubt that we had the flu as well. That night I was really messed up. Michael took on the household work and put the girls to sleep while I rested some. Thank you Girado!

Following morning we all woke up a little better. :) But I was still concerned that Emery wasn’t eating, so I made a quick stop and got some popsicles for Emery. Good and fun way to give kids liquid!

Thursday afternoon, we were feeling better and we decided to do a fun project with the girls. We were stuck at home all week so we painted!! :) That was fun!

Friday morning, Michael went back to work and I stayed home with the girls. Thank God we were all feeling much better. I was the only one with a bad cough. Anyway, that afternoon my MIL came to visit us, then we did our nightly routine and Michael and I had a delicious late dinner. Friday’s Jack Daniel’s burgers! :) Though we were feeling a lot better, we had to stay home since we were still contagious. Saturday was a pretty chill day. And on Sunday, we finally took Emmy out. Poor girl was jumping up and down when we took her to the park that afternoon! lol

So after the park we came home and I was sooooooo happy because Emery finally ate a full meal. I gave her a few things and she ate not one, not two, but FOUR cups of fruit. She kept asking for more once she would finish. lol. Of course I gave her as much as she wanted! And Ella was doing perfect!

FINALLY, that night we ended the “swine flu week” with a family movie night. We watched Cinderella and made some chocolate chip cookies. Daddy ate 7! I ate 1! And Emmy ate half of one!

………………………………………………………..

So yeah! That was our crazy week. It stinks that we all got sick with this flu, but thank God it never became anything really serious. Emery didn’t get any symptoms besides the fever and stomach pain, and Ella got a small cough. The girls did awesome and though both Michael and I had it a bit rough, we are feeling great now! Again we say, thank you all for your prayers, the calls, texts, emails! And thanks to those that checked up on us daily! :)

(More pics coming up of our daily activities!)

how cool is…

How cool is this? So Monday night after the Connecting Point dinner at Summit, a nice lady I had never met before, Carol, approached me and asked, “You’re Jessica. You’re anti vaccines right?” I was taken aback and wondered how she knew that. Well, it turns out she came across my blog from Julie’s blog roll and read my vaccine posts.

Anyway, she told me a little bit about herself and how she’s anti vaccines as well and handed me a business card of a lady by the name of April Renee. She is an anti vaccines speaker and shares her own story about her daughter who died from a vaccine related injury. And educates others in this matter.

She will be speaking here in SW Florida sometime in November and both Michael and I will be attending. I’m really excited to hear what she has to say and educate myself even further. I will be emailing her sometime this week to ask if she’d be willing to travel to Miami and speak there. I have a few friends who have shown interest and would probably like to learn more. Even if you still choose to vaccinate, at least you can know both sides and make a decision then! I know my cousin Elizabeth would love to attend.

I will keep you guys posted and let you know what she says. Let me know if you’re interested in attending! :)

Friends for change

Friends for change is a year long campaign where the Disney Channel young stars explain how kids can help preserve the planet and tell them to go to the Friends for Change website to register and pledge which is sometimes said as “reg and pledge”. As part of the initiative, kids will have the ability to choose how Disney will invest $1 million in environmental programs.

I know of this because I watch the Disney Channel with Emery. And I think it’s a fantastic idea. :) These Disney stars have a really huge influence on the youth and it’s great to see them encourage the younger generation to make a change. The kids have already made a BIG impact. To learn more, click Friends for Change

Here’s the song the Disney stars made for the campaign, “Send It On”. Download on itunes, 100% of proceeds will go to the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund!
